Fastest Scenic Route
As I drove through a tourist area in the mountains, a billboard caught my eye. "Fastest Scenic Route," it proclaimed.
The phrase made me chuckle, but I was also dismayed by it. We are in such a rush that we even want a quick way to see the most beauty. And that's when we're on vacation, supposedly relaxing and having a good time.
Many of us try to be everything and do it all so that we can have it all. We set achievement goals in every area of our lives and push ourselves and those we love to achieve them. We are preoccupied with accumulating material goods and status. The result is often exhaustion, discouragement, and guilt. Many of our relationships lack depth because we do not invest enough time in them.
God's plan for us is simple: "Be still, and know that I am God." In our hectic, demanding lives, making God a priority isn't easy; but it is crucial if we are to know God.
When was the last time you were still before God? Building up a relationship with God takes time: time to memorize, study, and meditate on God's word, time to pray, and time to listen for God's voice.
