Remember, Anticipate, Live - Read 1 Corinthians 3:6-11
At the fifth anniversary celebration of the opening of our retirement home, we recalled the groundbreaking, dedication ceremonies, and more especially, the blending into one community of the many beliefs, interests, and talents of new residents. Our celebration closed with a vesper service conducted by our chaplain. He reminded us, "Our faith journeys have grown because of our firm foundation - Jesus Christ - and the building thereon by all of us." In closing, he made us the gift of these words: "Remember the past; anticipate the future; live in the present."
We needed to hear these words. Some of us entered into the celebration with heavy hearts. Our life partners of many years, who had been a vital part of that blending, have entered life eternal. It was appropriate and necessary for us to remember the past - those who had planted and watered - to look forward in anticipation and hope to the future, but above all to live in the present "as partakers of [God's] grace" (Philippians 1:7, kjv). This is a plan for abundant living at any age!
