Words for the Heart – Read Psalm 119:97-104
At age ten, I was finally old enough to attend the Sunday school class that "Miss Mary" taught. She was a tall, erect figure with gray hair and was never without the smile that creased her elderly face. Her faith and her knowledge of the Bible were legendary. She gave us gold stars and joyful approval each week when we recited our Bible verses.
One Sunday, a student asked Miss Mary if she knew many Bible verses from memory. Her smile deepened as she slowly turned the pages of her own well-worn Bible. "Many of these underlined verses are those that I learned when I was about your age, but I learned them in a special way." She slowly closed her Bible and clasped it as tenderly as one holds an infant. "I learn poems and songs by memory," she said, "but I learn the Bible by heart."
Like Miss Mary, we can keep God's message in our hearts, live by it, and share it with others.
